We are committed members of the Real Estate Institute and abide by their strict code of ethics. Littler Realty was established due to on-ging requests for a Real Estate office who takes pride in its work and who is willing and able to deliver excellent personal service to all clients. Having outgrown our former location, our company has recently relocated to bigger and brighter premises. We are now in the 'Real Estate strip' of Coolangatta. Having undergone a heritage makeover, our office has an unsurpassed ambience, which is both inviting and relaxing, reinforcing our old-fashioned values. At Littler Realty, we recognise that this beautiful region has its own unique appeal, so when selecting an agent, you may decide to choose the one which is locally born and bred. General background – Located approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane, on the border of New South Wales and Queensland are the Twin Towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. When Captain Cook sailed along the area now known as the Gold Coast in 1770, one of the places he recorded was Point Danger – aptly named as a warning to future mariners. Point Danger later became the site of a lighthouse housing a memorial to Captain Cook. The area was later explored by Lieutenant John Oxley who discovered and named the Tweed River in 1823 (after the River Tweed which forms the boundary between England and Scotland). The area was then settled by timber-getters, and by the 1890’s, the river port village of Tumbulgum was the centre of the shire’s population. Approximately 72,000 people live in the Tweed Shire today. The town of Coolangatta was named after a ship of the same name which was wrecked on the coast during the 1840’s. A meandering walkway extends from Bilinga south to Point Danger – perfect for a leisurely walk or vigorous run – why not finish off with a splash in the surf at unspoilt Rainbow Bay Beach. A relatively new area, Banora Point consists mostly of homes built from the 1970’s and early 1980’s onward, many of which are brick and tile. Due to the amount of land available, Banora Point has been the area of major housing development in the Tweed over recent years. The suburb is divided into East and West by the Pacific Highway. Most of the homes in East Banora Point are built on the hillside, which affords lovely views North over the Gold Coast, East over Fingal and the mouth of the Tweed River or South to Kingscliff and the Tweed Coast. This area also overlooks the Coolangatta/Tweed Heads Golf Course. West Banora Point centres around the Twin Towns Golf Course located adjacent to Club Banora in Leisure Drive. Many homes enjoy views over this park-like facility out to the misty mountains, which form our hinterland. Housing varies from townhouses, villas and duplexes to large family homes. Banora Point Public School, Centaur Public School, St Josephs Catholic College and the new Banora Point High School are located here. These rural and semi-rural areas are all within 10-15 minutes drive of the heart of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. The Bilambil valley is a long-established area known for its rolling green hills and picturesque beauty. Many hobby farms and commercial operations can be found here, and properties range from small acreages to several hundred acres each. Facilities include a community hall, sports ground, Catholic Church, primary school and local store. A quiet existence can be found at both Piggabeen and Cobaki, where the main road runs into a dead end in each valley. Properties consist mostly of small acreage properties and hobby farms. Lovely crystal clear creeks run through both these picturesque valleys. The closest suburb to Coolangatta airport, Bilinga consists of a strip of land no more than a few hundred metres wide extending from Tugun in the north down to Kirra Beach in the south. It is bordered by the airport to the west and the beachfront to the east. Bilinga is a seaside suburb with clean, patrolled beaches. A mixture of older style homes, contemporary beachfront mansions and low rise apartment buildings can be found here. Coolangatta is on the Queensland side of the Twin Towns. It is primarily a business and tourist area which has recently been refurbished, becoming the local café and restaurant mecca. Whether its breakfast, lunch, dinner or something in between, the many and varied eateries along the beachfront and Griffith Street at Coolangatta are bound to meet your taste bud’s needs. There are several high rise buildings in Coolangatta, which accommodate many of the tourists who flock to this unspoilt area for their annual holidays. In recent years, Coolangatta real estate has experienced something of a boom, with many new unit developments being constructed. Facilities include Showcase on the Beach Shopping Centre (with movie theatre), and Coolangatta and Greenmount Surf Clubs. Coolangatta Beach is the Gold Coast’s only north-facing beach and one of the most famous beaches in Australia. A diverse suburb extending from the housing estates of Currumbin Waters, through the industrial and commercial areas to the beautiful white sands of Currumbin Beach. The beachfront hosts several cafes, restaurants and shops as well as the local landmark known as ‘Elephant Rock’. Currumbin is home to the world famous ‘Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’, which plays hosts to thousands of tourists every year. Homes vary from the traditional fibro beach cottages to million-dollar-plus mansions on top of Currumbin Hill (overlooking the beach), to more contemporary homes of the Currumbin Waters area, some of which are located on the canal front. Shopping centres include Currumbin Fair Shopping Centre and The Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora. A quiet beachside suburb consisting of many undeveloped properties and low rise units located immediately to the north of Coolangatta. Recently, Kirra Beach has started to undergo something of a renaissance with the construction of several new high rise buildings, and now the beach house style homes are emerging. Facilities include a small group of local shops, and North Kirra and Kirra Surf Clubs, both of which are located on the sea’s edge. Surfboard riders from around the world flock here to ride the waves of famous 'Kirra Point'. Just ten minutes drive from Tweed Heads is Terranora, one of the more prestigious areas in our region. Built on a ridge, many Terranora residents enjoy rural and coastal views. The houses here consist mainly of large family homes and small acreage properties. Facilities include a general store, a state infants and primary school and Lindisfarne Anglican middle school and high school. Located to the immediate south of Currumbin, Tugun is a long-established beachside suburb. There are many properties which were established in the first half of the twentieth century, particularly in the beachside streets. In recent times, several low rise unit developments have taken place along the beachfront. On the western side, at Tugun Heights, there are mostly newer homes, many of which are elevated and enjoy both views and ocean breezes. Tugun is also home to John Flynn Private Hospital and Medical Centre. The Pacific Highway currently passes through Tugun, however, planning indicates that this thoroughfare will be rebuilt to the west of the Gold Coast Airport, bypassing the populated area of the suburb. Tweed Heads is as far north as you can go in New South Wales. This area has recently undergone some of the fastest residential growth in the state, increasing over 2.7% each year. This expansion is largely due to southern retirees and an escalating number young families migrating to the region. In the heart of Tweed Heads is Centro Mall shopping centre, where you can purchase just about all your domestic essentials. Twin Towns Services Club is located one block to the north of the Mall (on Jack Evans Boat Harbour).Tweed Heads Bowls Club hosts world class tournaments annually. With both outdoor and indoor greens it is the largest bowling club in the Southern Hemisphere. Other facilities include Tweed Heads Public Hospital, Southern Cross University, Tweed Heads Primary School, St Josephs Catholic school, Tweed Shire Council Chambers, the Police Citizens Youth Club (which hosts fortnightly markets), and the soon to be developed Jack Evans Boat Harbour. The high rise development for which the Gold Coast is famous has largely been absent from Tweed Heads, however, recently a Tweed Heads Taskforce was set up to identify proposed developments at five sites.
