Bulletin 38.04.05 NEW BRIDGE FOR UPPER COOMERA A new bridge will be built in Upper Coomera to cut travelling time for motorists in a fast growing area of the northern Gold Coast. The $1.3 million project will be a major benefit for residents and travellers on both sides of Yaun Creek, near the new Upper Coomera College. Engineering Committee Service Chairman Ray Hackwood said the bridge would be a boom for motorists, especially those accessing the college. He said half the funds for the bridge had been allocated in the budget for this financial year, with the balance set aside in the draft 2005-06 budget. To speed up the program, Coucil has given the Chief Executive Officer special, \\\'one off\\\' authority to accept the best possible tender, without the decision needing to return to Council for formal approval. Area Councillor David Power said the bridge was an urgently needed piece of infrastructure for the Upper Coomera area. He said that currently, residents were forced to take a longer route. Those living north of Yaun Creek- between Old Coach Rd and Abraham Rds- were forced to travel quite a distance, to get to Reserve Road. This road was the main east-west linkage through Upper Coomera, south of the creek. \\\"The proposed bridge will provide a much more direct route, cutting travel time, improving access and improving safety for motorists, especially school students and their parents.\\\" Cr Power said. |
